Amber Czisny was born in Ohio and began dancing, figure skating, and studying gymnastics at a very young age. She traveled to the Detroit area for many years to further her figure skating career and eventually relocated to Michigan. Ms. Czisny competed at her first U.S. figure skating nationals at the age of eleven and continued to compete nationally and internationally (for the United States) at the junior and senior levels until injuries prevented her from continuing. She has received her Gold Tests in freeskate, moves in the field, and ice dance.
Ms. Czisny danced at both Bowling Green State University and Oakland University. Dancing with a ballet/modern company, as well as with a hip hop/acrobatic company, helped her to develop a broad range of skills to pass on to students. Ms. Czisny is a rehabilitation specialist, a certified Pilates instructor, and a certified Belly Dance instructor. She is also a certified sports nutritionist, and an advocate for women’s health.
Ms. Czisny has taught dance to skaters in Ohio and at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena in the Detroit area. She has taught dance, Pilates, and flexibility classes at the Detroit Skating Club for the past eight years. Additionally, Ms. Czisny has worked with the U.S. Rhythmic Gymnastics teams on their flexibility. One of her favorite teaching memories so far has been teaching ballet to Bowling Green State University football and soccer players.
