Welcome to Detroit Skating Club’s Learn to Skate program!
Come experience the DSC Difference and Learn to Skate with us!
Learning to skate at DSC is for everyone! Our Learn to Skate program is for snowplow skaters (age 3-5), basic skills skaters (all ages), teens and adults too! Our coaches specialize in teaching quality technique at all levels – some of our coaches have even coached at the Olympics!
From Learn to Skate we guide our skaters into more programs at DSC including Learn to Play Hockey, Aspire Skating Academy, Synchronized Skating, Competitive Skating, recreational programs and more!
About Our Program
Classes are $20 per class, which will include 10 minutes of stroking and warm-up, 25 minutes of instructed class time and 25 minutes of supervised free time (which may consist of games, bubbles, mazes, etc.) and a badge once the skater has completed the level. We will include occasional 3-minute exhibitions of DSC skaters higher than the Learn to Skate level to expose skaters to the various disciplines of skating.
Skates should fit, please don’t leave growing room. Wear thin socks and skates with good ankle support. Skates should only have ONE blade. Skaters should wear comfortable clothing. Gloves or mittens are a MUST. We recommend that skaters under the age of 7 wear a hockey helmet or a round bike helmet. Purchasing or renting skates can be done at Detroit Custom Skate Shop located in DSC.
Phone (248) 335-8790.
All LTS skaters at The Detroit Skating Club are required to be members of the Learn to Skate USA. These fees are included in your Detroit Skating Club memberships as described below. If you are changing from another USFSA Club, please do so before or at the time of registration. We will assist you in the office. Representing The Detroit Skating Club is not mandatory for your membership. You may join several clubs, but only one may be designated as your Home Club.
Detroit Skating Club offers an ongoing registration – just as long as there is room in the class the child can start – for Learn to Skate classes during our Fall and Summer sessions. Our Fall session runs from the beginning of September to the end of May, and the Summer session runs from the third week of June until the end of August. To see a schedule of classes click here. Once you enroll, you will be enrolled for the length of the session unless you let us know before the first of each month.
Registration for Fall 2022 can be done over the phone by calling (248) 332-3000 x1104.
