All skaters at The Detroit Skating Club are required to be members of the United States Figure Skating Association, (the “USFSA”). These fees are included in your Detroit Skating Club memberships as described below. If you are changing from another USFSA Club, please do so before or at the time of registration. We will assist you in the office. Representing The Detroit Skating Club is not mandatory for your membership. You may join several clubs, but only one may be designated as your Home Club.
The USFSA is the National Governing Body of Amateur figure skating on ice in The United States. It was formed in 1921 and had 7 members. Today, the association has 500 member clubs and over 150,000 skaters. It is the only organization that leads highly talented skaters through Regional, Sectional and National competitions and on to Worlds and the Olympic Games. The USFSA in turn belongs to the International Skating Union (ISU) which is the international figure skating Governing Body.
Your joint DSC/USFSA membership gives the skater the right of testing and competing through USFSA. The monthly “Skating Magazine” is also included in your USFSA membership dues and is sent to your home address.
