Governance at the Detroit Skating Club
The Detroit Skating Club is a member-governed and member-owned nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing figure skating and ice sports through exceptional programs, facilities, and community engagement.
Our governance structure is designed to support responsible stewardship of club resources, transparent decision-making, and long-term organizational sustainability. Through elected leadership, engaged membership, and professional administration, DSC works to ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of the club and its members.
The DSC Board of Directors is elected by the membership and is responsible for establishing strategic direction, providing financial and organizational oversight, and ensuring alignment with the club’s mission, vision, and values. Day-to-day operations are led by the President/CEO and staff, allowing the Board to focus on governance, oversight, and the future success of the organization.
Our Governance Philosophy
The Detroit Skating Club believes that strong governance requires a balance of transparency, accountability, stewardship, and operational effectiveness.
As a member-driven organization, many individuals contribute to DSC in multiple capacities—as members, volunteers, committee participants, coaches, officials, and directors. Our governance framework is intended to provide clarity around roles and responsibilities while fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and shared commitment to the success of the club.
Our governance practices are guided by the same values that define DSC:
Community – We strengthen connection and belonging across our ice sports community.
Excellence – We strive to achieve the highest standards in all endeavors.
Integrity – We act with honesty, transparency, and accountability.
Resilience – We adapt, learn, and improve through change.
Stewardship – We honor one another and responsibly care for our facility, legacy, and shared resources.
